Sarah Toomey, Esq.
Sarah Toomey, Esq., joined BERG in 2017, bringing more than 14 years of legal experience as a strategic attorney with a background in biotechnology, corporate law and intellectual property. At BERG, Ms. Toomey is responsible for overseeing legal and regulatory affairs, including identifying and resolving business and legal issues; providing counsel on general corporate matters, including corporate strategies and initiatives; managing the company’s transactional agreements; advising on corporate governance; and overseeing BERG’s intellectual property portfolio. Ms. Toomey also oversees quality assurance, human resources, clinical operations and facilities.
Ms. Toomey has extensive experience in biotech patent law and corporate legal affairs. Ms. Toomey was previously employed by Metamark Genetics as General Counsel, where she managed the Legal Department and provided counsel on corporate strategies for all legal and business aspects of a commercial stage molecular diagnostic company focused on urological cancer care.
Prior to Metamark Genetics, Ms. Toomey served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at IntelligentMDx, a molecular diagnostics firm focused on tests to detect infectious diseases, where she created and managed the Legal Department. Before IntelligentMDx, Ms. Toomey worked as a patent attorney in two boutique patent law firms. Prior to law school, Ms. Toomey worked at Merck as a research scientist in a microbiology laboratory.
Ms. Toomey received her B.S. in Bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her J.D. from Suffolk University with a concentration in Intellectual Property.
Ms. Toomey is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
