Anjan Thakurta, Ph.D.

Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Anjan Thakurta brings to BPGbio’s Executive Leadership more than 20 years of large pharma, biotech and academic experience. Prior to BPGbio, he served as the Vice President, Translational Medicine at Bristol Myers Squibb from 2020 to 2022 and led disease and asset development strategies in heme malignancies by combining laboratory, translational and disease research. He worked in AstraZeneca and Biogen IDEC before joining Celgene in 2011 where he led late-stage translational development and diagnostics projects across multiple heme malignancies.

Anjan Thakurta received his Master’s in Biotechnology from Jawaharlal Nehru University and Master of Technology in Biochemical Engineering from IIT Delhi, India. He was a Nehru Fellow at Cambridge University for his doctoral work and completed his post-doctoral training at Harvard University.

In addition to his role at BPGbio, Dr. Thakurta is also a Visiting Professor in Cancer Biology and Translational Science at Oxford University, UK and an honorary senior departmental research fellow at Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), of Oxford, where he continues to nurture and guide young scientists in translational medicine and loves mentoring future leaders.
